Sobhi guides hosts Egypt to historic U-23 title

Hosts Egypt capped a historic tournament by being crowned Champions of the 2019 Total U-23 Africa Cup of Nations, defeating Cote d’Ivoire 2-1 after extra time at the Cairo International Stadium on Friday (22 November 2019) evening, to achieve their first title in the third edition of the tournament that also served as African Qualifiers for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. Olympic Pharaohs celebrating their championship win Karim El Iraky scored for Egypt after 37 minutes, before Aboubakar Doumbia equalized a minute from time. But skipper Ramadan Sobhi won the match for Egypt in the 116th minute. The Olympic Pharaohs sailed to the title in style, having won their fifth game in as many matches. South Africa joined Egypt and Cote d’Ivoire to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, after finishing the ongoing Total U-23 Africa Cup of Nations in third place, defeating Ghana 6-5 on penalties after 2-2 draw in the third place match played at the Cairo International Stadium on Friday evening. After a thrilling encounter that saw both sides performing high level football, it was the South Africa who had the last smile when they secured their place in next summer’s Olympics for the third time in their history and second successive after Rio 2016. Ghana will return home with heads high after some breathtaking performances that gained people’s hearts, but luck wasn’t at their side at the end. Black Meteors Lost 2-3 On Penalties To Their Ivoirian Counterpart

After a 2-2 draw in regular time, the extra time witnessed no more goals as the game was decided by penalties that saw Ivoirian goalkeeper Eliezer Tape saving three of Ghana’s kicks to send his side to next year’s Olympics for the second time in their history. Evans Mensah(white jersey) outwitting his marker Youssouf Dao took the lead for the Ivoirians after 13 minutes, linking well to Hamid Traore’s pass that sent him in a clear scoring position. A lead that lasted till halftime. Six minutes after the break, Yaw Yeboah restored parity for the Black Meteors. Samuel Obeng sent a cross that found Yeboah whose shot was too strong for the Ivoirian keeper to stop. Dao thought he has won the game for Cote d’Ivoire when he completed his brace six minutes from time with a diving header from Silas Gnaka’s cross. The Black Meteors of Ghana has lost 2 -3  to their opponent: the Olympic Pharaoh's of Egypt earlier in their second fixture match at the Cairo International Stadium in the on going under 23 African Cup of Nations. Sohbi leading by example from an equaliser The game that saw many goals: Ghana taken the lead at the early stages by their captain(Yaw Yeboah) from a tap in,following a cross from the left flank by Samuel Obeng; but the captain of the Egyptian Ramadan Sohbi equalised the Ghana 2 -1 in the second half of the game. Ahmed Rayan a substitute in the second half secure the maximum three points for the young Pharaoh's around 87 minutes of the game from a header from a brilliant corner kick by Ramadan. Hungary's Prime Minister Viktor Orban,56, knelt in prayer with Nick Vujicic, an Australian world renowned Christian evangelist who was born without limbs.This was during the preacher's recent visit to the country where he spoke to about 12,000 people in a local arena.
