Sobhi guides hosts Egypt to historic U-23 title

Hosts Egypt capped a historic tournament by being crowned Champions of the 2019 Total U-23 Africa Cup of Nations, defeating Cote d’Ivoire 2-1 after extra time at the Cairo International Stadium on Friday (22 November 2019) evening, to achieve their first title in the third edition of the tournament that also served as African Qualifiers for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. Olympic Pharaohs celebrating their championship win Karim El Iraky scored for Egypt after 37 minutes, before Aboubakar Doumbia equalized a minute from time. After a 2-2 draw in regular time, the extra time witnessed no more goals as the game was decided by penalties that saw Ivoirian goalkeeper Eliezer Tape saving three of Ghana’s kicks to send his side to next year’s Olympics for the second time in their history. The Black Meteors of Ghana has lost 2 -3  to their opponent: the Olympic Pharaoh's of Egypt earlier in their second fixture match at the Cairo International Stadium in the on going under 23 African Cup of Nations.
